Founders Day Ideas
Founders Day is a time to reflect on your local council's achievements, examine its current concerns and set goals for the future. The ways to observe Founders Day are limited only by your imagination; there is no one “right” way to celebrate. By having a Founders Day activity or event, it helps to educate the community about the importance and contributions of the National Pan-Hellenic Council and its member organizations.
Here are some ideas to get you started in planning your Founders Day events:
· Consider coordinating a unity walk with all the chapters in your council. Commemorate the event with a health awareness activity.
· Present Volunteer Service Awards to chapter members who have volunteered 80 or more community service hours.
· Consider hosting a joint Founders Day event with the alumni and the collegiate councils.
· Request that your city's mayor issue a proclamation in honor of NPHC's Founding. Invite the mayor to your meeting and have her/him sign the proclamation during a special ceremony.
· Candle ceremonies are impressive and inspirational. One idea is to light a candle for each organization while reaffirming the purpose of NPHC.
· Recognize people and fellow Greeks who have distinguished themselves in the areas of Education, Economics, Environment, Health and Politics by presenting awards and/or gifts of appreciation.
· Acknowledge outstanding members of your faculty, administration and Greek Life staff who have gone the extra mile for NPHC, and be sure to highlight the contributions they have made to your university and community.
